OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION Report

International President-Elect

Jack Creswell of Pennsylvania was elected as President-Elect of Optimist International.  Jack will serve as International President during the 2011-2012 Optimist year.

International Vice President-Elect

There were eight individuals who were elected as International Vice President-Elect and will serve as International Vice Presidents during the 2011-2012 Optimist year.

  1. Northeast & Great Lakes Region, Dwight Phillips, Southwestern Ontario

  2. Southeast Region, Rose Kohler, Georgia

  3. Mid Atlantc Region, Sandy Cyphers, North Carolina

  4. Mary Ann Gilipin, Missouri

  5. Great Plains Region, Judy Boyd, Iowa

  6. Southwest Region, Patsy Gardner, Texas

  7. West Coast region, Estermarie Hillman, Arizona

  8. Saint Lawrence region, Claire Labreche, Quebec

Board of Directors Election

Chris Jernigan from of North Carolina and Fatima Plater of Michigan were elected for three year terms to the Board of Directors.  There terms will begin on October 1, 2010 and end on September 30, 2013.  Chris was elected on the 5th ballot and Fatima on the 6th ballot.  There were nine individual who were on the ballot and after the 1st ballot the field was reduce to three candidates, Chris, Fatima and Gil Ortiz from Texas.  It required a majority of the votes cast for a candidate to be elected to the Board of Directors.

Proposed bylaws Amendments

Issue #1 – Deadline for Self-Nomination for the Board of Directors, Passed

  1. Changes the date for a candidate for the Optimist International Board of Directors to submit a self-nomination from November 1st to February 1st.


Issue #2 – International Development and Office Funds, Passed

  1. Eliminates the fund as there are no funds remaining in the account

Issue #3 – Annual Dues Billings for Clubs on the 120 day list, Referred to the Audit & Finance Committee

  1. Would require that once a club has been on the 120 day delinquency list twice with a fiscal year be placed on an annual billing basis

Issue #4 - District Meetings, Failed

  1. Would allow for the Board of Directors to conducted business at the Parallel District Conference with a majority of the Board of Directors registered for the conference

Issue #5 – Membership for Active Duty Military Personnel, Referred to the Audit & Finance Committee

  1. Would place active military personnel on the same dues status as college students

Issue #6 – College Clubs, Passed

  1. Would allow for College Clubs to be billed three times a year rather than four times a year
